Wilderness Outpost : The Fort Vermilion Memoir Of Mary B. Lawrence 1898-1907 [Keewaitin : God Of The North Wind]

Edited text of a memoir by Mary B. (Molly) Lawrence, recounting her residence at Fort Vermilion in northern Alberta from 1898 to 1907. Based on notes kept during her years in the region and later compiled under the title Keewaitin: God of the North Wind, the narrative records daily life at the settlement and describes its inhabitants, including traders, missionaries, and local Indigenous communities. The memoir documents social and cultural interactions among Cree, Métis, and Beaver peoples and incoming settlers, as well as conditions and events in a remote northern outpost at the turn of the twentieth century.
