Notes

Saskatchewan-born author James Sinclair Ross is often identified as one of Canada’s greatest literary authors. A bank teller by trade and a pianist/organist by education, Ross’ first novel As For Me and My House (1941) slowly gained recognition in Canadian literary and academic circles. In 1957 Ross published his second novel, The Well. Set in small-town Saskatchewan, the book weaves prairie imagery into a story of betrayal, crime, love and redemption when a wanted man from Montreal becomes entangled in the life of a wealthy old farmer who hires him as a farmhand.
