Notes

Written by Lewis H. Thomas (then, a history professor at Regina College; later, a recipient of the Order of Canada for his prairie historical research), this slim commemorative volume outlines the University of Saskatchewan’s first fifty years. Alongside plentiful pictures, Thomas’ text tells the University’s story from Saskatchewan’s passing of The University Act in 1907 and the University’s construction in 1910 through two World Wars and the Great Depression. He emphasizes the changing needs of a growing student body and resultant development of new buildings and departments. In the volume’s second half, Thomas provides overviews of the University’s colleges as well as its service groups and research contributions.
