The Real Old West: Images of a Frontier, featuring photographs by Frank S. Matsura and text by JoAnn Roe, presents a rare visual record of life in the Pacific Northwest along the Canadian–U.S. border. Matsura, a Japanese immigrant who arrived in 1903 and died of tuberculosis in 1913, captured everyday frontier communities in striking detail. His photographs remained largely unknown until they were rediscovered by the Okanogan County Historical Society and brought to light through Roe’s work, offering an authentic glimpse into the real Old West.
