Notes

The Anthropological Series of the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History (now the Royal Saskatchewan Museum) showcases human prehistory and early history in the province. In series volume #2, Boyd Wettlaufer, William J. Mayer-Oakes, Bruce A. McCorquodale, Aurele La Roque, J. S. Clayton, and W. K. Janzen examine the findings of a 1957 archaeological excavation in the Long Creek valley (near Estevan). Before the Saskatchewan Power Corporation flooded parts of the valley, the excavation preserved artifacts left behind by groups camping in the region over the past 5000 years. Much of the volume consists of descriptions of the material culture and animal remains excavated, accompanied by illustrations and images. The authors also summarize the site’s natural history, outline the excavation process, and offer comparisons between the Long Creek site and findings at other sites in Saskatchewan.
