Notes

This slim volume recounts the history of Winnipeg's St. Vital Park spanning the initial land purchase from the Municipality of St. Vital through Winnipeg's unicity amalgamation in 1972. The authors divide this history into three phases, each with new developments, refurbishment, and challenges. Due to the park's construction shortly before the Depression, St. Vital Park's history is articulated with reference to financial and developmental difficulties (including the park's closure in the 1940s). This copy bears the stamp of Gunter A. Schoch, Landscape Architect for Winnipeg's Parks and Recreation Department at the time of publication (later, Director of Planning and Development). Schoch worked on landscape architecture projects throughout the city, including improvements to St. Vital Park.
