Notes

This volume traces the history of Kildonan Park in north Winnipeg from the land's purchase in 1909 until Winnipeg's unicity amalgamation in 1972. This history is divided chronologically into three chapters, each discussing new constructions, renovations, and important events. The impact of Red River flooding appears at several points. As a city publication, the volume's authors show particular concern for local politics, civic governance, and the effect of economic and social changes in Winnipeg on the park. Includes two 28 x 43 cm. (11 x 17 in.) fold-out maps of the Park from 1911 and 1969. This copy bears the stamp of Gunter A. Schoch, Landscape Architect for Winnipeg's Parks and Recreation Department at the time of publication (later, Director of Planning and Development). Schoch worked on projects throughout the city, including the Kildonan Park Pond development in 1964.
