Notes

Battleford Historical Society Publications Vol. 1 No. 1. The Battleford Historical Society (later, the Canadian North-West Historical Society) was founded in 1924 to preserve the Battleford area’s history, in part by publishing accounts of life in the region prior to 1890. This volume collects reports and interviews describing Cree life in the North-West, focussing on an 1884 confrontation and standoff at Little Pine reserve during the NWMP’s arrest of an Indigenous man. The interviews showcase a range of perspectives including First Nations individuals, sympathetic government employees living on reserves, and NWMP officers. An account of rising tensions between Cree groups and federal law enforcement following the signing of Treaty 6. Laid in is a one-page membership application form for the Battleford Historical Society. Peel(3) 1250.
