Notes

In 1972, Canada’s National Museum of Man (now, Canadian Museum of History) established the Mercury Series to publish scholarship related to the Museum’s divisions. This volume (Archaeological Survey of Canada Paper No. 23) presents a Master’s thesis in archaeology written by J. Michael Quigg at the University of Calgary. Quigg analyzes artifacts from six sites along the Belly River (in southern Alberta) excavated as an archaeological salvage project. He sketches the area’s climate, geography, soils, and plants/animals, then describes each site’s composition and artifacts. Finally, Quigg uses the findings to draw conclusions regarding the prehistoric peoples living in the area. Includes lengthy appendices and figures detailing the artifacts found and the Belly River sites.
