Notes

Written by Russian coach Anatoly (here, "Antonolij") Tarasov, a pivotal figure in establishing the USSR's hockey program, this book teaches hockey theory and techniques. Tarasov comments on differences between "Canadian" and "Soviet" hockey styles and references athletes from both the North American and Soviet hockey worlds to illustrate his points. With statistics, diagrams, and photographs, he teaches skills such as skating, stick-handling, passing, scoring, defending, and goaltending. Published shortly after the 1972 Canada-USSR Summit Series, Tarasov acknowledges distinct hockey styles on either side of the Iron Curtain while promoting techniques from both.
