Notes

Local historian Sarah “Sally” Potter Clubb and University of Saskatchewan geography professor William “Bill” Antony S. Sarjeant were active figures in Saskatoon heritage initiatives, in part through their work with the Saskatoon Environmental Society (now the Saskatchewan Environmental Society). In this volume, Clubb and Sarjeant trace the city’s history from its inception as a temperance colony in the 1880s through the 1970s with brief descriptions of historic buildings. Sarjeant contributes overviews of Saskatoon’s historical growth as well as heritage preservation efforts in the city. Clubb offers brief descriptions of nearly 170 heritage buildings and sites, organized by district. From the Northwest Mounted Police Barracks to the Old Bone Trail, Clubb indicates the site’s location, dates of construction (or alteration/demolition), and significance to Saskatoon’s story. Photographs accompany many descriptions, and each building/site is indicated on a map.
