Notes

An illustrated survey of the history and culture of North American rodeo, combining an introductory historical essay with a photographic record of the sport and its participants. The text traces the origins of rodeo, its development on the Canadian prairies, and the growth of the Calgary Stampede, before examining the principal rodeo events, including bull riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, bronc riding, wild horse racing, wild cow milking, barrel racing, and chuckwagon racing. Throughout, Robert Semeniuk's colour photographs document competitors, livestock, and the atmosphere of contemporary rodeo, supplemented by a selection of historical images.
