Notes

The Hudson Bay Route Association was formed in 1924 (as the On-to-the Bay Association) to lobby for the completion – and, later, continued development – of the Hudson Bay Railway, a route meant to transport goods up to Churchill, Manitoba on the coast of Hudson Bay for export overseas. This convention pamphlet includes brief reports and speeches given by Association officials outlining the group’s goals and concerns: amounts of grain transported to Churchill, lengthening shipping seasons, and lowering insurance rates. Statistics comparing the Hudson Bay Route to shipping through other Canadian ports indicates the railway’s role in western Canadian imports and exports. Association membership numbers, expenses, and resolutions offer insight into the group’s composition two decades after the railway was completed. Peel(3) 7114.
