Notes

This volume contains fifteen papers originally presented at the Canadian Centennial Wheat Symposium, an event chaired by Kenneth Nielsen (a 1994 recipient of the Order of Canada for his work on fertilizers and soil sciences). Each of the papers discusses some aspect of cultivating wheat on the Canadian prairies. Topics range from soils to climates to diseases to experimental breeding. Contributors include academics and researchers from across the prairies as well as members of Canada’s Department of Agriculture. The contributions are academic in tone – many contain graphs, charts, endnotes, and references. Together, the papers provide a snapshot of research interests and scientific progress pertaining to wheat production on the Canadian prairies in the 1960s.
