Periodical. Apparently issued in more than one format, Parts I and II were issued separately, as well as together in a combined issue containing both parts and bearing a variant wrapper.

In the combined issue, the rear wrapper of Part I and the front wrapper of Part II have been removed, with the final page of the Part I text block neatly joined by adhesive to the opening page of Part II. The clean and uniform nature of this joining suggests that the two parts were prepared together in this form, rather than subsequently bound by an owner.

Approximately 44 leaves, 11 x 15.5 in. [28.5 x 39.5 cm.], illustrated in black and white and colour. Pagination irregular; extent stated by leaves. All double page illustrations present.

Lacks the rear wrapper. Front wrapper heavily torn and chipped, with substantial loss along all edges; a two-inch strip of now-yellowed cellophane tape is adhered to the wrapper. Numerous passages and illustrations bear ink markings and annotations. Text block loose and separated from the wrappers; leaves torn and chipped, with significant moisture staining and tidelines to the lower margins.

The Middleton illustration is present, though with a five-inch split originating at the lower edge and extending upward along the fold. The Canada’s Sacrifice illustration has short splits along the fold, originating at the upper and lower edges. The Attack on the Rebel at Fish Creek illustration has a lengthy tear adjacent to the fold. The Battle of Cut Knife Hill illustration has a short split at the centre of the fold. The Capture of Batoche illustration has a lengthy split at the centre of the fold. All illustration pages are chipped along the edges.
