Notes

Albert Lister, born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, entered the cattle trade in 1937 after working at the Moose Jaw stockyards and learning the business from his father. Over the following five decades he travelled throughout southern Saskatchewan buying cattle directly from farmers, feeding them in the family feedlot, and arranging their shipment to packing plants and markets across the Prairies and beyond.

Memoirs of a Cattle Buyer recounts Lister’s working life and experiences in the Saskatchewan cattle business. He discusses changes in cattle breeds, markets, transportation, and methods of sale, and recalls the people and incidents encountered during his career.
