Notes

Together with his wife, Aubrey Lang, Wayne Lynch is a Canadian author, lecturer, and wildlife photographer. In this volume, Lynch introduces the Canadian prairie’s grasslands ecosystem. He begins by describing the geological formation and climate of the southern prairies, then explores the flora and fauna (from grasshoppers to garter snakes) found in the grasslands’ various habitats. Throughout, he comments on ecology and conservation issues such as the use of pesticides or the creation of national parks. Together with many large color photos, Lynch’s approachable text catalogues the sights, sounds, inhabitants, and climate of the prairie grasslands. Book is from the collection John Frank Roy, a Saskatchewan teacher, ecologist, and advocate for natural history.
