Notes

In 1995, historian Catherine Macdonald wrote a history of Winnipeg’s parks and recreational services. In “Making a Place,” Macdonald expands her scope to explore Manitoba’s landscape architecture. The book divides this exploration into six increasingly detailed chronological sections running from the early 1800s to the early 2000s. Each section highlights key developments/figures in Manitoba’s landscape architectural scene and situates landscape architecture’s role in public life. Additionally, Macdonald chronicles the professionalization of landscape architecture in Manitoba with reference to education, certification, regulation, and professional associations. Photographs and maps supplement the text throughout. No publication date indicated, but Don Reichart’s cover art is dated 2005, making a publication date of 2005 or later likely.
