Notes

“Land Marks” journeys through the art of Saskatchewan-born landscape painter Dorothy Knowles. Fellow Saskatchewan artist Terry Fenton’s biography of Knowles contextualizes her life and work in Canada’s twentieth century art scene, identifying key figures and moments that inspired both her style and subject selection. Examples of Knowles’ paintings from each period intersperse the text. In the latter half of the volume, Fenton selects and comments on representative pieces of Knowles’ work organized by subject matter and size. Throughout, the book’s 40 color photos capture Knowles’ mastery of Canadian landscape painting.
