Notes

Anthony Gordon was a geologist who taught in Puerto Rico and Ohio before establishing the University of Regina’s geology department in 1966. In this 21.5 x 28 cm (8.5 x 11 in) volume, Gordon offers an approachable introduction to Saskatchewan’s geological history formatted as a series of questions and answers. Using queries like “What was it like in Saskatchewan just before the glaciers made our present landscape?” or “Have dinosaurs ever been found in Saskatchewan?”, he describes the hallmarks of different geological eras. Frequent maps and diagrams, a glossary, and discussion questions make the book a useful classroom tool. The last 10 pages contain shapes to cut out to craft a full-color folding model of Saskatchewan’s geological layers.
