Notes

Bill Barry (1942-2015) was a teacher, author, and historian who produced a large historical database pertaining to Saskatchewan place names for localities and topographical features. In this volume, Barry provides background information for more than 15,000 place names in the province. Like Barry’s previous “People Places,” the volume covers cities, towns, post offices, schools, and municipalities. In “Geographic Names of Saskatchewan,” however, Barry also includes the names of topographic features such as rivers, lakes, and islands. Each entry includes the location’s coordinates on a grid map (map on covers), legal land description or latitude/longitude, and (where possible) an explanation of the name’s origins as well as additional location information.
