Notes

This slim volume (part of the Gabriel Dumont Institute’s “Métis Historical Booklet” series) traces the life of Gabriel Dumont, particularly as it relates to the Red River Métis and the 1885 North-West Resistance. The book covers Dumont’s life amongst the Métis prior to his involvement with Louis Riel as well as his role in the North-West Resistance’s battles. The period before 1885 is particularly well covered, and Dumont is portrayed as a buffalo hunter and trapper as well as a Métis military leader. Large photographs supplement the text throughout.
