Notes

This inaugural issue of Michigan State University's "Publications of the Museum, Cultural Series" describes the archaeological findings of a team led by faculty from the University's Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the site of Fort Michilimackinac (Michigan) in 1959. The Mackinac Island State Park Commission's desire to accurately restore the fort's architecture occasioned the dig. The authors begin by summarizing the fort's history, outlining their archaeological method, and describing the site's stratigraphy (geographic layers). The majority of the volume describes features and artifacts found during excavation.
