Notes

Nazareno Strampelli (1866 – 1942) an Italian plant breeder, introduced the wheats - Mentana, Ardito and San Pastore. Strampelli writes "... This work tells the story of the beginnings of my labours, which date back to 1900, and of their developments up to the present time, and in it I have described my methods of working and have also dealt with concrete results that have been obtained for the benefit of the agriculture in my country.

My intention in the present expose' is simply to summarise the contribution made by my early maturing wheat strains to the advance of Italian wheat-growing ...."
