Notes

Ernest Lindner (1897-1987) immigrated from Austria to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1926. A self-taught artist, Lindner was Head of Saskatoon Technical Collegiate’s Art Department from 1936-1962. Lindner received numerous accolades for his art and role as a Saskatchewan educator, including an appointment to the Order of Canada in 1979. Produced for an exhibition of Lindner’s work at Saskatoon’s Mendel Art Gallery, this catalogue includes a lengthy interview transcript as well as excerpts from newspaper articles, correspondence, and books discussing his artistic influence and influences. Examples of Lindner’s art from throughout his career appear, with an emphasis on his characteristic landscape paintings and recent work.
