Two companion volumes documenting the history of Francis, Saskatchewan, a southern prairie town situated approximately 50 kilometres north of Weyburn.
The first volume, Community Flashback: Francis and District, originally published in 1967 and here present in its 1980 reprint, provides a general history of the community and its institutions. Chapters address local churches, clubs, and service organizations; the surrounding school districts (Francis, Ferguslea, Pleasant View, Murphy, Dakotah, Millsdale, Maxville, and Monadale); and the development of area businesses. The work also includes anecdotal recollections contributed by residents and a selection of biographical notes on individuals and families, including some already deceased at the time of publication.
Community Flashback II (1980) serves both as a continuation and partial reissue of the earlier volume. While it repeats certain historical material from the first book, it substantially enlarges the genealogical component, offering an expanded series of family histories and updated accounts of the district’s development.
