Notes

Glen Makahonuk (d.1997) was a historian and Senior Library Assistant in the University of Saskatchewan Library’s Special Collections. He also served as President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1975 for more than a decade, as well as President of CUPE Saskatchewan 1993-1997. Completed shortly before his death, this slim volume combines Makahonuk’s interest in history with his union involvement to chronicle union organizations, strike activities, and labour legislation in Saskatchewan. Interactions between labour unions and various Saskatchewan governments, primarily after WWII, play a major role in Makahonuk’s account of unionization in the province. Excerpts from archival sources appear throughout. Includes endnotes. Sticker indicates that the book was given to first-time delegates at the 1998 Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Convention.
