Notes

Designed for use in Saskatchewan, this Western Canada Series textbook explains Canadian federal and provincial civics (finance, law, and – primarily – governance) for a school-age audience. The early chapters move from a broad look at the British Empire to a summary of Canada’s federal government (including its functions, departments/offices, and relationship to Britain's monarch). The textbook's second half focusses on Saskatchewan’s provincial government, again discussing officials, their roles, and the democratic process by which they are elected. Brief chapters on provincial education and the duties of Canadian citizens conclude the textbook. With supplementary reading recommendations and classroom activities/questions, this book provided two years’ worth of Civics education in Saskatchewan schools in the 1920s.
