Notes

Camp North of 55 is a recollective account of Island Falls, Saskatchewan, a company-built settlement now abandoned, located near the present-day community of Sandy Bay within the Churchill River basin. The town was established by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting to house employees required to operate a hydroelectric generating station constructed to supply power to the company’s copper-zinc operations at Flin Flon, Manitoba.

Drawing on memories of former residents, the book brings together a series of anecdotes and personal reminiscences of life in this  northern community. Through these firsthand recollections, the author preserves a portrait of Island Falls as it once functioned.
