This volume reproduces selections from the extensive natural history collection assembled by the Amsterdam pharmacist Albertus Seba (1665–1736). Seba’s cabinet brought together specimens of animals, insects, plants, shells, corals, and other natural objects gathered from around the world, which he commissioned artists to document in illustrated plates. The volume reproduces plates from the original four-volume catalogue, including depictions of snakes, reptiles, birds, insects, plants, and other specimens, as well as some of the fantastical creatures included in Seba’s collection.
