“Canada: An Historical Magazine” was a short-lived periodical edited by David P. Gagan (a history professor at McMaster University) that focused on Canadian history, publishing quarterly 1973-1976. While aimed at a nonacademic audience, many articles include notes on sources to allow for fact-checking or further research. Contributors include both professional and amateur historians. This issue article's feature John A. MacDonald (Canada’s First Prime Minister) and his wife, Agnes, and include excerpts from Agnes' "By Car and by Cowcatcher" account of her 1880s cross-country train journey.
