Notes

Botanist Isabel M. Priestly’s interest in documenting the prairie provinces’ natural history took multiple forms, ranging from a weekly column on bird sightings in the “Yorkton Enterprise” to the Saskatchewan Natural History Society’s formation to her 1942 founding of the quarterly journal “Blue Jay.” The journal carries articles pertaining to Saskatchewan’s natural history and wildlife, inviting contributions from both amateur and professional birders, conservationists, ecologists, and naturalists. This issue features the results of Saskatchewan’s 2019 Christmas Bird Count and Christmas Mammal Count, sightings of Gray Hairstreak and Western Green Hairstreak butterflies, and a history of the Van Brienen Land Nature Sanctuary (near Kelvington).
