Notes

Tollefson examines the Saskatchewan Medicare controversy that culminated in the 1962 doctors’ strike. The dispute centred on the Saskatchewan government's effort to establish a universal, compulsory, publicly financed medical-care program and the medical profession's opposition to the proposed arrangements. In July 1962, Saskatchewan physicians withdrew most services for about three weeks while maintaining emergency care.
