This large, 23 x 30.5 cm (9 x 12 in) book contains photos, sketches, and facsimiles of newspaper articles/headlines that showcase Biggar, Saskatchewan’s history, buildings, and residents. The volume’s images begin with the disappearance of buffalo from the area in the 1880s, the arrival of European homesteaders and the railway in the early 1900s, and the establishment of schools, churches, and businesses before World War I. The book’s second half chronicles clubs, organizations, and leisure in the growing town, changing technology and new civic developments, and public figures who came from – or visited – Biggar. Much of the volume depicts Biggar prior to WWII, with only a few photos of contemporary life. Brief captions and short historical statements identify and explain the images.
