Louise Halfe is a Cree poet who grew up on Saddle Lake Reserve (northeast of Edmonton), attended Blue Quills Residential School, obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Regina, and was recently (2021) appointed Canadian Parliamentary Poet Laureate. “Bear Bones & Feathers” is Halfe’s first published volume of poems. The topics of Halfe’s poetry range from portraits of her parents to reflections on her residential school experiences to depictions of life on reserves in contemporary Canada.
