Notes

Allan Blakeney, born in Nova Scotia in 1925, spent much of his life in service to the people of Saskatchewan. Before entering politics, he worked behind the scenes as a senior civil servant in Tommy Douglas’s CCF government.
As Premier of Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1982, Blakeney helped shape some of the defining moments in modern Canadian history. In this political memoir, he reflects on over forty years of public service, offering a firsthand look at the birth of government-funded medicare, the patriation of the Canadian Constitution, and innovative approaches to natural resource development. Blakeney passed away in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of principled leadership.
