Notes

John Diefenbaker (1895-1979) was a Saskatchewan politician who served as a member of Parliament for nearly 30 years and as Prime Minister 1957-1963. Published just months before his death, this booklet contains an election campaign message from Diefenbaker to residents of his Prince Albert constituency as well as clippings detailing his recent political activities. Diefenbaker states his position on a variety of issues (ranging from national unity to Canada’s economy to the Soviet Union) and reminds readers of his past accomplishments. The booklet’s selection of newspaper clippings showcase Diefenbaker’s latest political maneuvers, cover recent celebrations of his contributions to federal politics, and describe his day-to-day life of public service. Throughout, the booklet emphasizes Diefenbaker’s commitment to representing the concerns of Prince Albert’s voters. A memento of Diefenbaker’s final election campaign.
