Notes

Prepared by a Railway Transport Committee of the Canadian Transport Commission, this Dec. 1987 report examines the ramifications of removing (then, mandatory) cabooses from Canadian freight trains. The commissioners focus primarily on safety issues associated with relocating all train personnel to the front of the train, but also examine technological innovations and operating costs. The report culminates in Order R-41300, which lays out guidelines for cabooseless train operation. Includes a 27.5 x 63 cm (11 x 24.5 in) fold-out chart, references, and lists of individuals and organizations consulted. Laid in is a one-page printed copy of the Canadian Transport Commission Railway Transport Committee’s Order No. R-41338 amending R-41300.
