A community history of the village of Lipton and its surrounding district in Saskatchewan, this volume traces settlement and development from 1875 to 1985. The book includes general historical material on local governance, churches, businesses, community life, Indigenous presence, and area schools, with individual sections on the school districts of Balrobbie, Devon, Freelands, Hayward, Headlands, Heavyland, Herzel, Jeshuurun, Lipton, Parland, Shawlands, and Tiferes Israel (Reindeer). Of particular note are several thematic essays, including Belle Van Luven’s account of deaf-mute settlers, Sol Sinclair’s detailed recollections of early Jewish settlement in Lipton, and M. Drever’s history of the Jewish cemetery, with information supplied by Henry and Alice Swartz. The volume also contains an Honour Roll and a substantial section of family histories contributed by area residents.
