Notes

“So Soon Forgotten” contains a series of homesteading memoirs by Dick Fairfax initially serialized in 1955 in the “Western Producer,” a weekly newspaper published in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Fairfax’s stories are based on journals that he kept after arriving in Canada to settle on the prairies in the early 1900s. They recount Fairfax’s journey from Liverpool, his odd jobs as he moved westward, the challenges of homesteading, and life in growing rural communities. Colorful characters and fond reminiscences pervade the text. Features illustrations by acclaimed Canadian artist (and spouse to Dorothy Knowles) Bill Perehudoff – the volume’s illustrations stand in contrast to his better-known color field paintings. No publication date indicated, but content’s serialization makes a publication date of 1955 or later necessary.
