Notes

Hans Christoph Wolfart is a University of Manitoba linguist whose research focusses on Indigenous languages, particularly Cree dialects. He has collected and published Cree stories, and taught well-known Cree linguist Freda Ahenakew. In this volume, Wolfart – with Janet F. Carroll, then an instructor at the University of Manitoba’s Department of Native Studies – introduces Cree’s grammar and structure. With examples from Cree and frequent comparative or contrasting references to English, the authors discuss the sounds, forms, and inflections of Cree. The book provides an approachable introduction to Cree grammar aimed at aiding second language learners. Laid in is a promotional pamphlet and a brief note inviting the “Western Producer” to run a review in the paper.
