Notes

Fay Beierbach is a lifelong rancher who has contributed to several southern Alberta history books. In this volume, she offers an overview of ranching in the Cypress Hills region from the late 1800s to the present. Beierbach begins by outlining the conditions that made cattle ranching in the area possible: the buffalo’s disappearance, treaty signings, and the arrival of both homesteaders and the railway. The book then profiles some the region’s early settler inhabitants, including Beierbach's relatives. Finally, she discusses settlements at Fort Walsh and in the Battle Creek area. The booklet’s personal anecdotes, family histories, and historical synopses offer a warm tribute to the southern Cypress Hills and its ranching families. Includes a 21.5 x 27 cm (8.5 x 10.5 in) fold-out map.
