Notes

This volume in Osprey Publishing’s Campaign series examines the 1877 Nez Perce conflict through a detailed analysis of strategy, tactics, and battlefield experience on both sides. Focusing on the leadership of Chief Joseph, it traces the three-month fighting retreat of the Nez Perce from eastern Oregon across Idaho and Wyoming, as they resisted forced removal to a reservation. The campaign culminates in northern Montana, roughly forty miles south of the present Saskatchewan border, where the  Nez Perce were ultimately compelled to surrender.
