John Sproule Mills served two stints as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan’s mayor (in 1933-1934 and 1949-1954). Mills was also an educator, serving as Principal at schools and teacher’s colleges (then, Normal Schools) in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. In “Famous People of Many Lands,” Sproule presents the lives of ten historical leaders, explorers, and inventors to young readers. Figures range from Abraham Lincoln to Joan of Arc (two outliers in a roster of British figures), and hail from time periods that span the Middle Ages (Robert the Bruce) to the early twentieth century (Lord Strathcona). Sproule recounts each figure’s life, noting their accomplishments and legacies. No publication date, but Lord Strathcona’s status as deceased necessitates a publication date of 1914 or later. Aurora lists two copies. Not in Peel.
