Notes

In the winter of 1931–32, Albert Johnson—later dubbed the “Mad Trapper of Rat River”—triggered one of Canada’s greatest manhunts after shooting an RCMP officer near Fort McPherson. For 48 days, Johnson evaded capture across 240 km of Arctic wilderness in brutal winter conditions, wounding two more officers and killing one before being tracked down and killed. His identity and motives were never conclusively discovered, cementing the chase as a lasting northern legend.
